This is a fun wordy rhyming book about young Morris McGurk who had a big plan。 He wanted to clean up the empty lot behind Mr。 Sneelock's store and build a fantastic, astounding, terrific, tremendous circus there。 Of course, he is sure Mr。 Sneelock will be willing to help in so many different and unusual ways。 Funny story and illustrations。 This is a fun wordy rhyming book about young Morris McGurk who had a big plan。 He wanted to clean up the empty lot behind Mr。 Sneelock's store and build a fantastic, astounding, terrific, tremendous circus there。 Of course, he is sure Mr。 Sneelock will be willing to help in so many different and unusual ways。 Funny story and illustrations。 。。。more

Of the Seuss books on my shelf when I was a kid, this was my godmother’s favorite。 Now that I just reread it, I know why。 The unveiling of unlikely circus animals in If I Ran the Circus showcases the author’s talents for whimsy and bizarre innovation。 The wordplay is Seuss’ finest, accessible to both kids and adults。 My godmother’s favorite animals were the Spotted Atrocious and Grizzly Ghastly。 A budding musician, I was partial to the Three-nozzle Bloozer and One-nozzle Noozer。 The irony of the Of the Seuss books on my shelf when I was a kid, this was my godmother’s favorite。 Now that I just reread it, I know why。 The unveiling of unlikely circus animals in If I Ran the Circus showcases the author’s talents for whimsy and bizarre innovation。 The wordplay is Seuss’ finest, accessible to both kids and adults。 My godmother’s favorite animals were the Spotted Atrocious and Grizzly Ghastly。 A budding musician, I was partial to the Three-nozzle Bloozer and One-nozzle Noozer。 The irony of the old storekeeper becoming the athletic daredevil star of the circus in the boy’s imagination works for both kids and adults。Highly recommended for kids of all ages。 。。。more

If I Ran the Circus, is another great book by Dr。Seuss that follows a boy who rhymes about how he would start a circus。 The book is great filled with rhyming language and illustrations that keeps readers engaged in the story。 The book I believe is filled with too many rhymes that makes the story hard to narrate or read to children。

This family read was completely new to me。 I thought I had read all the Dr Seuss books so this was a nice surprise。

This was my favourite book when I was younger as I loved the ridiculousness of it, as well as the rhythm of it and inventive words。 The children love having it read to them too。 Dr。 He’s books are really good for younger ‘readers’ that can’t actually read - the rhythm of the books and the rhyme enables them to remember it and recite it word for word just from having it read to them

This Dr。 Seuss book is designed for older readers and is all about a kooky circus。 I thought it was pretty good for what it was and it definitely kept me reading。 I’d recommend if you want something for kids。

I am not entirely certain how I feel about this book。 It has all the magic of a Dr。 Seuss book - wonderful rhymes, delightful made-up words, and imaginative pictures and story to follow。 However, the whole premise of the story is that a young boy will have a wonderful circus, but his neighbor, Mr。 Sneelock will do all of the work - from serving the lemonade at the entrance, to training all of the animal acts, to performing all of the most dangerous stunts - all so that young Morris McGurk can ha I am not entirely certain how I feel about this book。 It has all the magic of a Dr。 Seuss book - wonderful rhymes, delightful made-up words, and imaginative pictures and story to follow。 However, the whole premise of the story is that a young boy will have a wonderful circus, but his neighbor, Mr。 Sneelock will do all of the work - from serving the lemonade at the entrance, to training all of the animal acts, to performing all of the most dangerous stunts - all so that young Morris McGurk can have his dream of being in charge of a circus。 I don't believe this is the best message for young people to be taught。 Someone else's hard work is not for you to exploit for your own gain。 If you want to achieve your dreams, whether they be large or small, YOU must put in the effort, time, and hard work。 。。。more

Dr Seuss invites you to his circus attraction, in a book that follows the style of If I Ran The Zoo。 Little McGurk dreams of running the most unique three ring show ever, and part of his dream-scheme involves his best friend/boss Mr Sneelock。 In McGurk's mind he sees diverse creatures the world has never seen before: one that drums it's tummy, deer that jump through each other's horns, and a creature that can juggle punctuation marks as though they were tangible objects! And Mr Sneelock is run ragged like a slave because "he wouldn't mind"!!! But it's all within McGurk's mind, where, happily, it stays, so we the reading public can enjoy with some snarky giggles and just know this will never happen, since realistically a circus like the one McGurk is planning would fold it's tents in seconds! If I Ran The Circus by Dr。 Seuss is a very creative and vibrant book for both young and old readers。 This book did a wonderful job at exploring a child's expansive imagination。 It's about a young boy who wants to create a wide-ranging circus in the vacant lot behind Mr。 Sneelock's store。 His imagination included many performers from a walrus who can stand on one whisker, blindfolded bowman who shoots arrows through objects blindly, ferocious monsters being tamed, and more。 It was nice to see all If I Ran The Circus by Dr。 Seuss is a very creative and vibrant book for both young and old readers。 This book did a wonderful job at exploring a child's expansive imagination。 It's about a young boy who wants to create a wide-ranging circus in the vacant lot behind Mr。 Sneelock's store。 His imagination included many performers from a walrus who can stand on one whisker, blindfolded bowman who shoots arrows through objects blindly, ferocious monsters being tamed, and more。 It was nice to see all the imaginary performers throughout this story, it kept my attention very well。 He intended to have Mr。 Sneelock be the main performer of his circus which is a humorous aspect to this story, I myself found this to be very entertaining。 This circus would be called The Circus McGurkus。 This story takes you through a wild ride in his circus with many different acts that would keep a reader intrigued; also implementing funny aspects to the story that would be very enjoyable to read to a child。 In the end, it was all the imagination of Morris McGurk。 This book does an excellent job at imagery and portraying just how powerful the imagination of a child could be, and possibly what dreams they may one day bring into fruition。 。。。more

Like "If I Ran the Zoo," a young feller (Morris McGurk), sizes up a vacant lot—actually, a junkyard—behind Sneelock's Store and imagines, not only tidying it up, but staging on it the greatest show on earth and beyond。 A lot of delightful wordplay is this one, which builds to a comedy with a rapturous climax—whose last page, like "Zoo" and "McElligot's Pool," brings the reader back down to earth。 There's a an ever-so-slight nudge in the direction of cleaning up a nasty environment, which in late Like "If I Ran the Zoo," a young feller (Morris McGurk), sizes up a vacant lot—actually, a junkyard—behind Sneelock's Store and imagines, not only tidying it up, but staging on it the greatest show on earth and beyond。 A lot of delightful wordplay is this one, which builds to a comedy with a rapturous climax—whose last page, like "Zoo" and "McElligot's Pool," brings the reader back down to earth。 There's a an ever-so-slight nudge in the direction of cleaning up a nasty environment, which in later Seuss books would become the theme in itself。 The medium is pen and ink, with occasional fill-in colors。 Charming as "The Circus" is, it was only a warm-up for the next Seuss opus, whose subject was a mean one: Mr。 Grinch。 。。。more

More Dr Seuss Craziness29 November 2019 - ArarattDr Suess certainly does have a rather strange imagination, particularly with all of the weird and wonderful creatures that he seems to come up with, and the poetic form that he uses to craft these children’s books。 Okay, this is probably not one of my favourites, though that probably does have something to do with it never having been a part of my collection when I was a kid。 Honestly, I only grabbed it because I had realised that I had forgotten More Dr Seuss Craziness29 November 2019 - ArarattDr Suess certainly does have a rather strange imagination, particularly with all of the weird and wonderful creatures that he seems to come up with, and the poetic form that he uses to craft these children’s books。 Okay, this is probably not one of my favourites, though that probably does have something to do with it never having been a part of my collection when I was a kid。 Honestly, I only grabbed it because I had realised that I had forgotten to bring with me any other short and simple books to read on my holiday。tWell, I am currently sitting at Ararat station waiting for the train to arrive and take me back to Melbourne (though a part of that trip will involve going by bus, due to them needing to perform works on the tracks – then again most of the trains that I was supposed to take didn’t eventuate for one reason or another, so it has mostly been buses)。tAnyway, enough of that because this rather short book is about a boy who has a great idea for turning an old, vacant, plot of land into a circus。 Interestingly, there happens to be a generic shop in front of this block of land, and this boy decides that he will rope the shopkeeper into doing an awful lot of things that, well, if he actually knew what the boy wanted him to do, he would have a fit。tThen again, this is all imaginary and is going through the mind of a boy who has some great ideas for this block of land。 Mind you, since pretty much all of the animals don’t exist, this circus will probably remain in his mind。 Still, considering that this book was written by Dr Seuss, then you can certainly link this to his own imagination。tMind you, I do sort of feel sorry for the poor shopkeeper being roped into this boy’s plans。 。。。more

I had an existential crisis reading this book。 I actually found it kind of difficult to read but that was probably the anxiety attack I was having。 For some reason this book really activates my existential dread。 I've decided you cannot read Dr。 Seuss books in your head。 They are designed to make you insane that way。 The proper way to read a Dr。 Seuss book is out loud, and in whatever dumb voice u can come up with, for an audience。 Your own dumb voice is the best。 Other than that it's a beautifu I had an existential crisis reading this book。 I actually found it kind of difficult to read but that was probably the anxiety attack I was having。 For some reason this book really activates my existential dread。 I've decided you cannot read Dr。 Seuss books in your head。 They are designed to make you insane that way。 The proper way to read a Dr。 Seuss book is out loud, and in whatever dumb voice u can come up with, for an audience。 Your own dumb voice is the best。 Other than that it's a beautiful book with bright colorful illustrations that are like candy to the eyes。 I love his use of color always。 。。。more
